Clash Royale New Update: August 2026 Changes

Clash Royale's announced August update brings a Spirit nerf (community vote), single-use Hero/Champion abilities replacing cooldowns, Goblinstein and Little Prince buffs, plus several Work-in-Progress reworks still pending final confirmation.

Table of Contents

Supercell has revealed the August 2026 Balance Changes for Clash Royale, and this update is a big one. A community-voted Spirit nerf, a full rework of how Hero and Champion abilities function, and a long list of card reworks are all on the table. Some of these changes are locked in for the August season, while others are still labeled Work in Progress and could shift before they go live. Here's everything confirmed so far.

Confirmed Changes Going Live in August

These changes are set to launch with the start of the August season, though Supercell has said mid-season adjustments are possible if anything feels off once the update is live.

Spirit Nerf: Community Vote

Fire Spirit, Ice Spirit, Heal Spirit, and Electro Spirit have become a defining part of the current meta, often replacing spells and support troops entirely in many decks. Supercell is addressing this with a nerf, but rather than picking a direction internally, they're letting the community choose between two options:

  • Option 1 - Hitpoints: reduced from 230 to 217, a 6% cut that means Archers, Archer Queen, Bomber, Musketeer, and Tesla can now one-shot a Spirit.
  • Option 2 - Speed: reduced from Very Fast to Fast, a 25% slowdown that removes a Spirit's ability to dodge attacks from Bowler, Firecracker, Hunter, and Magic Archer.

Either version removes a Spirit's ability to connect with Crown Towers on its own, which has been one of their most frustrating traits to play against.

Heroes & Champions: Single-Use Abilities

This is the bigger structural change in this update. Every Hero and Champion ability is losing its cooldown and becoming single-use instead, with one exception: Boss Bandit, whose kit was specifically designed around rapid, repeated activations.

To offset this shift, three Champions are getting buffed alongside the change:

Card Change Before → After
Goblinstein Doctor Damage 92 → 135 (+47%)
Little Prince Hit Speed Conservation 0s → 0.3s (keeps his ramped-up attack speed briefly while moving)
Little Prince Guardienne Damage 217 → 232 (+7%)
Mighty Miner Base Damage 40 → 43 (+6%), now two-shots Skeletons at every level

Check the full Little Prince card guide for how this ability change affects his overall kit.

Bug Fixes

Two timing issues are getting cleaned up in this update:

  • Ronin: First Hit Time increasing from 0.3s to 0.4s, fixing an inconsistency where his parry and melee damage could land in the same tick against a charging Dark Prince. His parry will also no longer interrupt Golden Knight's dash.
  • X-Bow: Hit Speed, Damage, and Projectile Speed are all being adjusted together to stop X-Bow from wasting a shot on a troop it's already destroyed near the edge of its range. The net result is a small 1.4% DPS increase.

Work in Progress: Still Subject to Change

The rest of this update is explicitly labeled experimental by Supercell - these numbers could shift, get scaled back, or be reverted entirely before the final patch goes live, based on community feedback.

Mechanical Reworks

Card Change
Hero Ice Golem Third blast switches from Freeze to a Slow effect, with damage
per blast nearly doubling (38 → 69)
Witch Evolution Heal per Skeleton more than doubles (53 → 122), but now only
heals from her first Skeleton wave
Battle Healer Damage up 38%, but she no longer heals herself and her heal
radius shrinks by 25%
Void Reworked into Clash Royale's first-ever 5 Elixir damage spell (up from 3),
with damage against tanky ranged targets roughly doubling
Hero Mega Minion Tower damage reduction after Wounding Warp increases to 75% and
now lasts permanently, not just 5 seconds
Rune Giant Enchantment now casts instantly instead of after a 1 second
delay, and no longer affects kamikaze troops

A few smaller reworks are also on the table for Goblin Curse, Goblin Machine, Mortar, and Barbarians - Supercell has said Barbarian Hut narrowly missed this round but remains under consideration.

Proposed Nerfs

  • Hero Goblins: Respawned Goblin count drops from 3 to 2, alongside a faster deploy time.
  • Archers Evolution: Power Shot damage down 17%.
  • Giant Snowball Evolution, Goblin Barrel Evolution, Goblin Cage Evolution: Each losing some of its current Evolution-specific value.
  • Mega Knight Evolution: Uppercut now triggers every other attack instead of every attack.
  • Valkyrie Evolution: Tornado Damage cut by half.
  • Bowler and Executioner: Both losing a small amount of projectile range.
  • Wall Breakers: Damage down 20%.

Proposed Buffs

  • Hero Tombstone: Damage up 32%.
  • Minion Horde Evolution, Princess Evolution: Both getting more forgiving attack timing.
  • Goblins: A small damage increase.
  • Spear Goblins: Slightly faster attack speed.
  • Suspicious Bush: Its spawned Goblin gets more hitpoints.

What This Means for Your Decks

If you're leaning on Spirit-heavy cycle decks right now, it's worth watching which nerf option the community picks, since both close off slightly different play patterns. The Hero and Champion ability rework is the change likely to have the widest reach - losing cooldowns in exchange for a single, more impactful activation changes the timing and value of nearly every Hero and Champion in the game, not just the ones explicitly named in this patch.

Check the card tier list once the update goes live to see how these changes shift the current rankings, or browse the best decks page for builds that might benefit from the Spirit nerf and ability rework.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the August 2026 balance update live yet?

Not yet. The first part of this update - the Spirit nerf, the Hero/Champion ability rework, and the bug fixes - is confirmed to launch with the start of the August season. The rest is still labeled Work in Progress and remains subject to change.

Which Spirit nerf option will be picked?

Supercell is letting the community vote between a hitpoints cut and a speed cut. Check Supercell's official announcement for the latest on which option was chosen.

What does the Hero and Champion ability change actually do?

Every Hero and Champion ability loses its cooldown and becomes single-use instead, except for Boss Bandit. This means abilities can no longer be activated repeatedly in one deployment.

Where can I read the full official patch notes?
